# Claude AI Image Generator

> Claude can't generate images on its own — it's a text model that can read images and draw diagrams, charts or SVG, but not photos or illustrations. To make real images in Claude, add an image tool through a connector (MCP). ## Steps
1. Add the connector — In Claude open Customize → Connectors → + Add → Add custom connector. Name it Kenerate and paste https://mcp.kenerateai.com/mcp — or use the “Add to Claude” button on /app/mcp, which fills both in.
2. Sign in to Kenerate — Click Add, then Connect. A Kenerate page opens: sign in and click Allow. No API key needed; new accounts get starter credits.
3. Switch it on in a chat — In a chat click + → Connectors and turn on Kenerate. Claude Code instead: run claude mcp add --transport http kenerate https://mcp.kenerateai.com/mcp, then /mcp → Authenticate.
4. Ask for an image — “Use Kenerate to make a 4:5 poster for…”. Claude picks the model, runs generate_image and shows the result in the chat; it's also saved in your Kenerate history.

### Why Claude needs a connector to make images
Claude is a language model: it reads text and images and writes text. It can draw with code — an SVG icon, a chart, a diagram in an Artifact — but it can't paint a photo or an illustration pixel by pixel.
The Model Context Protocol (MCP) is how Claude uses outside tools. A connector is an MCP server Claude can call. Add an image connector and Claude does what it is good at — turning a vague idea into a precise prompt — then hands the prompt to an image model and shows you the result.

### What you can make from one Claude chat
The Kenerate connector isn't only an image generator. Claude can chain the tools:
- Images: generate_image (create or edit), upscale_image, remove_background, expand_image, change_camera_angle, apply_filter, split_layers.
- Video (paid plan): generate_video, talking_avatar, motion_control, restyle_video, add_subtitles, dub_video.

- Poster: “JAZZ AFTER DARK” and “Friday 8 PM · The Blue Room” spelled exactly, gold line art on navy.
- Product photo: the sage mug, beans and linen napkin as asked; the model added a potted plant we didn't ask for.
- Illustration: the fox, mushroom and fireflies in a gouache look — after rewording “children's book” to “storybook”.
- Blog header: a sunny desk with laptop, notebook and tea, no people and no logo, as the prompt said.

Q: Can Claude AI generate images?
A: Not by itself. Claude reads images and can draw diagrams, charts and SVG graphics as code, but it has no model for photos or illustrations. Add an image tool as a connector (MCP) and Claude can make them: it writes the prompt, calls the tool and shows the picture in the chat. Q: How do I add an image generator to Claude?
A: Open Customize → Connectors → + Add → Add custom connector, name it Kenerate and paste https://mcp.kenerateai.com/mcp. Click Add, then Connect, sign in to Kenerate and click Allow. Then switch Kenerate on in a chat with + → Connectors. The “Add to Claude” button on kenerateai.com/app/mcp fills in the name and URL for you.

Q: Is the Claude AI image generator free?
A: You can start free. Claude's free plan can add one custom connector, and a new Kenerate account gets starter credits; Qwen Image 3.0 is on Kenerate's free plan. Other models use credits — the four images on this page cost 7.2 credits each on GPT Image 2.5 Sunburst. Calls through Claude cost the same as in the Kenerate app.

Q: Does it work in Claude Code and Claude Desktop?
A: Yes. A connector added on claude.ai syncs to Claude Desktop and mobile. In Claude Code run claude mcp add --transport http kenerate https://mcp.kenerateai.com/mcp (add --scope user for every project), start claude, type /mcp and pick kenerate → Authenticate.

Q: Which image models can Claude use?
A: Through Kenerate: GPT Image 2.5 Sunburst and Flare and GPT Image 2 (OpenAI), Nano Banana 2.1 (Google), Seedream 5.0 Pro (ByteDance), Recraft V4.1, Qwen Image 3.0 and more. Claude can call list_models or pick_model to see them and choose; you can also name one in your message.

Q: Can Claude edit my photos too?
A: Yes. Share a photo in the chat and ask for the change — Claude uploads it with upload_media and runs generate_image as an edit, or a dedicated tool: remove_background, upscale_image, expand_image, change_camera_angle, apply_filter or split_layers.

Q: Do I need an API key?
A: Not for claude.ai, Claude Desktop or Claude Code — they sign in with OAuth: you click Allow on a Kenerate page. Keys (starting ken_) are for apps without sign-in and for scripts. Either way, the connection shows in your key list on /app/mcp and deleting it disconnects Claude.

Q: Can Claude make videos with Kenerate?
A: Yes, with a paid Kenerate plan — the same rule as in the app. The same connector gives Claude generate_video, talking_avatar, generate_music, generate_speech, generate_3d and more, 29 tools in all.

Q: What does Claude refuse to make?
A: Kenerate applies the same rules as its app whatever the client: content involving minors, sexual content of real people and illegal content are always refused. Some words trip the filter on their own — our prompt with “children's book” was blocked and “storybook” went through.
