## In depth

### Why Udio stopped downloads
Udio disabled downloads of audio, video and stems on 30 October 2025 as a condition of its settlement with Universal Music Group, briefly reopening them for 48 hours in early November after user backlash [1][2]. The companies plan a licensed platform where creations stay within the service [3].

### What to look for in an alternative
If downloads are the reason you're leaving:
- Downloads on every song, not a monthly cap.
- Formats — MP3 at least; WAV or FLAC for further mixing.
- Lyrics control — paste exact lyrics with section tags.
- Pricing — credits you keep vs. a subscription.
