Why most AI image generators say no
Mainstream generators write their limits into their guidelines. Midjourney, for example, says it tries to keep its service PG-13 and family friendly, and its community guidelines rule out adult content and gore [1]. Tools built on closed models inherit their provider's filters on top of their own.
That is why a prompt about a horror creature, a battle scene or an adult theme can be refused on one site and work on another: the difference is the rules and the model, not the prompt.
Where the limits come from on Kenerate
Kenerate runs one check on every prompt: prompts involving minors — child-related words and ages under 18 — are blocked on all models. Beyond that, whether a prompt goes through depends on the model. Closed models (GPT Image, Nano Banana, Seedream) apply their provider's safety systems; open models do not.
Chroma, the model tagged Uncensored, is an 8.9-billion-parameter open model based on FLUX.1 [schnell], released under Apache 2.0 and described by its authors as fully uncensored, trained on about 5 million curated images across photos, anime and art [2].
Same prompt, three models
The comparison on this page runs identical prompts through Seedream 5.0 Pro (at 2K), Chroma and Flux 2 Dev. Seedream gives the most polished detail; Chroma and Flux 2 Dev follow unusual prompts more literally — a good way to draft ideas before a final render.
Prompting dark and unusual subjects
Filters aside, strange subjects fail because the prompt is vague. What works:
- Name the genre and medium: “cosmic horror oil painting”, “comic-book halftone”, “sepia 1920s photograph”.
- Describe light and mood: stormy, candlelit, neon, chiaroscuro.
- Give the scene a place and a time: a lighthouse at night, a ruined supermarket, a Victorian street in fog.
- Keep the seed when you find a look, and change one word at a time.
Private by default, if you want it
Turn on Private in Advanced settings and the image stays out of the public community feed. Adult-flagged results appear blurred in your own gallery grid, and generations are kept for 7 days unless you save them to the cloud.
