Seedance 2.5 is the better pick when you need a single clip longer than 15 seconds or a reference pack bigger than 12 files. Seedance 2.0 is the better pick when you want the lower per-second cost, the Fast and Mini variants, or a 4K-capable model today. On Kenerate AI, a 5-second 720p text-to-video clip costs 540 credits on Seedance 2.5 and 360 credits on Seedance 2.0 at the rates in our model config. The rest of this guide shows where the two differ and how to choose. Figures are as of 30 October 2026.
What is the difference between Seedance 2.0 and 2.5?
Both models are from ByteDance and both make video with sound in the same pass. The main differences are the clip length, the number of reference files, and the resolution range the vendors document. ByteDance announced Seedance 2.5 in June 2026, and its rollout has been staged, so availability can differ by platform. Kenerate runs both models in the same studio, so you can switch between them without changing your workflow.
| Feature | Seedance 2.5 | Seedance 2.0 |
|---|---|---|
| Clip length | 4 to 30 seconds | 4 to 15 seconds |
| Reference images | Up to 30 | Up to 9 |
| Reference videos | Up to 10 (30 s total) | Up to 3 (15 s total) |
| Reference audio | Up to 10 (30 s total) | Up to 3 (15 s total) |
| Native sound | Yes | Yes |
| Resolutions in Kenerate's config | 480p, 720p, 1080p, 4K | 480p, 720p, 1080p, 4K |
| Fast variant | Not in Kenerate's lineup | Seedance 2 Fast and Seedance 2.0 Mini |
The lengths and reference limits come from the seedance2 entries in src/lib/video-models.ts. Third-party launch reviews agree on the length and reference gap, but they disagree on resolution, which is covered below.
How much does Seedance 2.5 cost per second?
Kenerate prices Seedance by output resolution, with separate rates for reference-based jobs. At 300 credits per USD of provider cost, these are the per-second rates for a plain text or image-to-video job:
| Resolution | Seedance 2.5 (credits/s) | Seedance 2.0 (credits/s) | Seedance 2 Fast (credits/s) |
|---|---|---|---|
| 480p | 54 | 36 | 30 |
| 720p (default) | 108 | 72 | 60 |
| 1080p | 270 | 180 | 150 |
| 4K | 540 | 360 | 300 |
Seedance 2.0 Mini is priced below the Fast tier at each resolution. Check the model picker for its current rate, because the credit numbers above come from the code and can change.
What does a 10-second clip cost?
A 10-second 720p job is 1,080 credits on Seedance 2.5 and 720 credits on Seedance 2.0. A full 15-second clip on Seedance 2.0 is 1,080 credits, and a 15-second clip on Seedance 2.5 is 1,620 credits at the same resolution. So a 15-second Seedance 2.0 clip costs the same as a 10-second Seedance 2.5 clip. Drafting at 480p or on a Fast or Mini variant is the cheapest way to test a prompt before you commit to a final render.
When should you choose Seedance 2.5?
Choose Seedance 2.5 when the length is the constraint. Its 30-second single-pass limit lets you keep a scene in one take instead of stitching two 15-second clips and hiding the seam. It also accepts up to 30 reference images, so it suits product, character, or style packs where the model has to hold many references at once.
Use it for:
- A continuous shot longer than 15 seconds, such as a walk-through or a product reveal.
- A reference-heavy job with many character or product images.
- A multi-shot scene where you want one generation to carry the timing.
Test the output before you plan a final delivery. Early third-party launch material describes Seedance 2.5 as still rolling out, and the resolution claims are not uniform across sources (see the next section).
Which resolution does each model reach?
Our config lists 1080p and 4K for both models, so the Kenerate studio shows those options for Seedance 2.5 as well. The launch coverage is less consistent. Fal's comparison says Seedance 2.5 generates at 480p or 720p and that Seedance 2.0 runs from 480p through 4K. Another launch review says Seedance 2.5 "at launch tops out at 720p" while 2.0 "already renders up to 4K."
So treat 4K on Seedance 2.5 as unconfirmed until you see it render. Before you plan a 1080p or 4K delivery, run a short 5-second test at that resolution, and use Seedance 2.0 if the test does not come back at the size you need.
Which model is cheaper for a test?
Seedance 2.0 is cheaper at every shared resolution, and its Fast and Mini variants lower the cost further. For a prompt test, the cheapest route is a 5-second 720p render:
- Seedance 2 Fast: 300 credits.
- Seedance 2.0: 360 credits.
- Seedance 2.5: 540 credits.
Use Seedance 2.0 to find the shot, then render the final on 2.5 only if the shot needs more than 15 seconds or more references than 2.0 accepts. Fal's side-by-side guide says duration and resolution are the two settings that decide between the models. It ran the same prompts on both, so run your own identical prompt on both before you commit, because results depend on the subject.
Can you use Seedance 2.0 for free?
No. On Kenerate AI, Seedance 2.0 is a paid model and is not part of the free plan. The Seedance 2.0 free page explains what is and is not included. Any free-tier claim you see from a reseller should be checked against the price on the model page.
How do you choose between the two in practice?
Work through these questions in order:
- Does one clip need to run longer than 15 seconds? If yes, use Seedance 2.5.
- Do you need more than 9 reference images, 3 reference videos, or 3 reference audio files? If yes, use Seedance 2.5.
- Do you need 1080p or 4K for a final delivery? Test on Seedance 2.0 first, since it has the clearest resolution path, then confirm 2.5 at that size.
- Is this a draft or a prompt test? Use Seedance 2 Fast or Mini at 480p or 720p.
- Are you on a budget for a high volume of clips? Seedance 2.0 at 720p costs two-thirds of Seedance 2.5 at the same length.
If you are not sure, start with a 5-second Seedance 2.0 draft at 720p. It shows whether the prompt, the image, and the motion work before you pay for a longer 2.5 render.
How do the two compare on image-to-video?
Both models accept a start image and an optional end frame. Image-to-video is the better workflow when a product or face has to stay exact, because the first frame sets the look. Make the still first with an image model, then animate it. Our image-to-video page covers the start-frame workflow, and the AI video generator page shows the full text-to-video and image-to-video options in one studio.
If you want to compare more models before you choose, the AI video models page lists the models Kenerate runs, with their lengths and credit rates. For a deeper look at the newer model, read Seedance 2.5 release date and where to use it and the Seedance 2.5 AI video generator guide. For the cheap-draft option, see Seedance 2.0 Mini for fast, low-cost previews.
