Prompt to formula
"In a Kenerate XLSX" says whether the function goes into a workbook the agent builds as a live formula. The others are written and explained in the chat for you to paste into Excel or Google Sheets.
| Function | What you type (example) | Formula | In a Kenerate XLSX |

| XLOOKUP | Find the price for the product code in A2 on the Products sheet | =XLOOKUP(A2, Products!A:A, Products!C:C, "Not found") | Paste from the chat |
| INDEX/MATCH | The same lookup, but it has to work in older Excel too | =INDEX(Products!C:C, MATCH(A2, Products!A:A, 0)) | Live formula |
| TEXT | Show the date in A2 as "06 Oct 2026" | =TEXT(A2, "dd mmm yyyy") | Paste from the chat |
| DATEDIF | Full years between the start date in B2 and today | =DATEDIF(B2, TODAY(), "y") | Paste from the chat |
| UNIQUE | List every customer in column A once | =UNIQUE(A2:A500) | Paste from the chat |

How to describe a formula so it comes out right
The more the agent knows about your sheet, the less you have to fix.
Say which column holds what: "dates in A, region in B, sales in D, rows 2 to 500".
Say where the formula goes and whether it will be copied down a column.
Give the exact conditions, including text values as they appear in the sheet ("North", not "north region").
Say your Excel version or Google Sheets, so it picks functions that exist there.
Paste five or six sample rows; the agent can then check the formula against them.
Ask "explain it like I'm new to Excel" for a part-by-part breakdown you can learn from.
Example uses
How creators use Excel formula generator
Illustrative examples of typical workflows, not customer reviews.

Finance analyst
A finance analyst could describe a SUMIFS by region and month in one sentence, get the formula with an explanation, and drop it into the monthly report without searching forums.

Teacher
A teacher could ask for a grading formula that turns scores into A, B and C, with a plain explanation he can reuse for every class list.

HR coordinator
An HR coordinator could ask for a formula that counts full years of service from a start date, then get a ready workbook with the formulas in place for the whole team list.

FAQ
Excel Formula Generator questions
7 questions
What is an Excel formula generator?
An Excel formula generator turns a description of what you want into a formula. Instead of remembering argument order for SUMIFS or INDEX/MATCH, you write "total sales for North in March" and get =SUMIFS(D:D, B:B, "North", C:C, "March"). Kenerate Agent also explains each part, so you can adjust the formula yourself next time.
Link to this answerHow do I create an Excel formula with AI?
Open Kenerate Agent, describe what the cell should calculate and say which columns hold which data, for example "dates in A, amounts in C, rows 2 to 200". The agent writes the formula and explains it. Paste it into your sheet and copy it down. If it returns an error, paste the error and a few rows back into the chat and ask for a fix.
Link to this answerCan it explain a formula I already have?
Yes. Paste the formula into the chat and ask what it does. The agent breaks it into parts, explains each function and range in plain words, and points out likely problems, such as a range that won't grow with new rows or a lookup that fails on text stored as numbers. It replies in the language you write in.
Link to this answerWill the formulas work in Google Sheets?
Most will. SUMIFS, COUNTIFS, IF, INDEX/MATCH, TEXT, UNIQUE and FILTER exist in both Excel and Google Sheets, and Google Sheets also supports XLOOKUP. Say which app you use in your message so the agent picks functions that exist there and uses the right separators for your region if you mention it.
Link to this answerCan it build a spreadsheet with the formulas already in it?
Yes. Ask for a workbook and the agent builds an XLSX with up to 10 sheets, typed columns and live formulas for every calculated cell, plus an optional totals row. The file carries widely supported functions such as SUMIFS, COUNTIFS, IF, IFERROR and INDEX/MATCH; newer ones such as XLOOKUP or FILTER are given in the chat for you to paste in.
Link to this answerCan I upload my workbook so it sees my columns?
No, chat attachments are images, video and audio only. Copy the header row and a few sample rows from your sheet and paste them into the message (up to 20,000 characters). That gives the agent the column letters and data types it needs to write a formula that fits your sheet.
Link to this answerIs it better than Copilot in Excel?
They suit different moments. Copilot in Excel works inside your open workbook and can add formula columns to it directly. Kenerate Agent works in a chat: it explains formulas in detail, builds a new workbook from scratch, and sits next to document, slide, image and video tools. If you already work all day in Excel with Copilot, that is the closer fit.

Which formula for which job
Most everyday spreadsheet questions fall into a handful of patterns. Name the pattern in your message and the agent picks the matching function.
- Add up with conditions: SUMIFS (several conditions) or SUMIF (one).
- Count with conditions: COUNTIFS or COUNTIF.
- Look something up in another table: XLOOKUP in current Excel, or INDEX with MATCH where it has to run everywhere.
- Decide between outcomes: IF for two, nested IF or IFS for several, IFERROR to catch errors.
- Work with dates: DATEDIF for whole years or months between dates, TODAY for the current date, TEXT to format a date.
- Pull out a list: UNIQUE for distinct values, FILTER for rows that match a condition.
Formula in the chat, or formula in a file
In the chat, the agent can write any Excel or Google Sheets formula and explain it. When it builds an XLSX for you, only functions from a fixed, widely supported list go in as live formulas: SUM, SUMIF, SUMIFS, SUMPRODUCT, AVERAGE, AVERAGEIF, MIN, MAX, COUNT, COUNTA, COUNTIF, COUNTIFS, ROUND, ROUNDUP, ROUNDDOWN, IF, IFERROR, AND, OR, NOT, ABS, MEDIAN, PRODUCT, INDEX, MATCH, CONCATENATE, LEN, UPPER, LOWER, TODAY, YEAR, MONTH, DAY and SUBTOTAL. A formula using anything else, such as XLOOKUP or FILTER, is stored in the cell as text, so paste those in yourself.
Fixing a formula that returns an error
Paste the formula, the error (#N/A, #VALUE!, #REF!, #DIV/0!) and a few sample rows. The usual causes are a lookup value stored as text in one table and a number in the other, ranges of different sizes in SUMIFS, a deleted column, or dividing by an empty cell. The agent names the likely cause and gives a corrected formula, often wrapped in IFERROR for a clean result.
Newer functions need a newer Excel
XLOOKUP, UNIQUE and FILTER need a recent Excel (Microsoft 365 or Excel 2021 and later) or Google Sheets, and IFS needs Excel 2019 or later. If you share files with people on older versions, ask for INDEX/MATCH and nested IF instead; they work everywhere.
