AI Short Film Generator — script to storyboard to finished film

Give Director an idea or a script. It asks a few questions, writes the script and a scene-by-shot plan, draws your cast so faces stay the same in every shot, renders the scenes and cuts them on a timeline with music and voice — then exports one MP4.

  • Script and shot plan written for you
  • Same characters in every shot
  • Timeline edit, music and voice
  • MP4 up to 1080p

What is an AI short film generator?

An AI short film generator turns an idea into a finished film instead of a single clip. Kenerate Director writes the script, plans it as scenes and shots (your storyboard), makes character sheets that every shot uses as a reference so the cast stays consistent, renders each shot with video models such as Seedance 2.0, and lets you edit the cut, music and voiceover before exporting an MP4. Director runs on paid plans.

How to use the AI short film generator

Time needed
Steps
4 steps
  1. Step 1

Open Director and write the brief

Type an idea or paste a script, or pick a Quick Start such as Short Film or Micro Drama. Choose the look, ratio and length.

  2. Step 2

Answer the questions, approve the plan

Director asks a few questions, then writes the script and a scene-by-shot plan you can change before anything renders.

  3. Step 3

    Approve the cast

It draws character sheets, locations and props (or uses your photos) so every shot keeps the same faces and places.

  4. Step 4

    Render, edit and export

Shots render in order. Re-render or edit any take, trim and reorder on the timeline, add music and voice, then export the MP4.

Tips

How to get a short film that holds together

What Director is built around, and where most AI films fall apart.

  • Write the brief as a story: who wants what, what stands in the way, how it ends.

  • Answer the director's questions: tone, look and length shape the whole plan.

  • Approve the cast before rendering; every shot uses those sheets as its reference.

  • Upload a photo for a character who must look like someone real (with their permission).

  • Keep shots short and let the edit carry the story; re-render only the shots that miss.

  • Pick the ratio for where it will play first: 21:9 or 16:9 for film, 9:16 for Reels and TikTok.

FAQ

AI Short Film Generator questions

What is an AI short film generator?

It is a tool that makes a whole short film from an idea: script, shot plan, characters, scenes, edit and sound. Kenerate Director does each of those steps and gives you the result as one MP4, rather than a single 5 or 10-second clip you have to stitch yourself.

Can AI make a short film with the same characters in every scene?

Yes. Director makes a character sheet for each cast member, with front, three-quarter, profile and close-up views, and every shot that character appears in uses that sheet as a reference. Locations and props get reference images too. You can also upload a photo of a real person (with their permission) as the character.

Is Director an AI storyboard generator?

Director plans your film as scenes and shots before rendering: each shot has its own prompt, length, camera, dialogue or narration and caption, and you can change the plan before anything is made. It doesn't draw a separate storyboard sheet; the plan and the cast sheets do that job, and each shot is then rendered as video.

How long can an AI short film be?

The Short Film Quick Start runs from 15 seconds to 3 minutes. One Director project or episode can be up to 10 minutes; a longer story continues as Episode 2, 3 and so on. Each shot is usually 4 to 15 seconds, and up to 30 seconds on Seedance 2.5 and Wan 3.0.

Is the AI short film generator free?

No. You can open Director and watch the example films without paying, but making a film needs a paid plan and a verified email address. A failed export is refunded automatically.

Can I edit the film after it renders?

Yes. On the timeline you can reorder, trim, split, duplicate and remove shots, change a shot's speed, re-render a shot, edit or extend a take, and move scenes. Music can be trimmed and faded, narrator lines moved, and earlier cuts restored.

What sound does the film have?

Each clip can keep its own sound (dialogue, ambience, effects), use a narrator, or both. Director can write a score with Ken Music or use your track, and voice lines with ElevenLabs voices. In the export the music is lowered automatically while the narrator speaks.

What formats can I export?

One MP4 at 30 frames per second in 480p, 720p or 1080p, in 16:9, 21:9, 9:16, 1:1, 4:3 or 3:4. You can also turn on a public, read-only share link for the film and turn it off again.

Clip generator vs film generator

A video model makes one shot from one prompt. A short film needs many shots that agree with each other: the same faces, the same places, a story that moves forward, and sound that runs across the cuts. Director sits on top of the video models and handles that work — the script, the plan, the cast references, the order of the shots and the final edit.
