FAQ

Descript Alternative — questions

Can Kenerate edit video by editing the transcript like Descript?

No. Kenerate has no transcript editor: you can't delete words from text to cut the video. Descript's own site describes exactly that workflow. Kenerate works on finished files — it dubs them, voices them or captions them — so for text-based editing, keep Descript or another editor with that feature.

Is there a Descript Overdub alternative?

For new narration, yes: Kenerate's Voice Studio turns text into speech, clones a voice from a 3–15 second sample and can design a new voice. What it doesn't do is patch a single word inside an existing recording; you generate a new line of audio and place it in your editor.

Can Kenerate translate and dub a video like Descript?

Yes. AI Dubbing translates a video or audio file into one of 33 target languages, keeps the speakers' voices and handles up to 32 speakers, for files up to 15 minutes. Descript's translation page lists 25+ languages with lip sync built in; on Kenerate, lip sync is a separate step after the dub.

Does Kenerate export SRT or transcript files?

No. Auto Subtitles burns captions into the picture and there's no SRT, VTT or text transcript export. If you need caption files for YouTube uploads, translators or accessibility workflows, Descript or another editor is the better choice.

Is there a free Descript alternative?

For editing, the guides we checked name free tools such as DaVinci Resolve, Audacity for audio, and the open-source Audapolis for text-based audio editing. Kenerate isn't a free editor: new accounts get starter credits to try dubbing, voices and subtitles, then you pay per job with no subscription.

Is Kenerate good for podcasters?

For part of the job. You can dub a podcast episode's audio (up to 50 MB and 15 minutes) into another language or caption a video clip from it. You can't record, multitrack, remove filler words or edit by transcript — the tasks most podcast guides recommend Descript or Riverside for.

Does Kenerate add a watermark?

No. Dubbed, voiced and captioned files download without a Kenerate watermark.
