US Thanksgiving 2026 is on Thursday, 26 November 2026 (the fourth Thursday of November); Canadian Thanksgiving was earlier, on Monday, 12 October 2026. To make your own AI Thanksgiving images, describe an autumn scene (a harvest table, pumpkins, maple leaves, a pie on a windowsill) in an AI image generator, put your greeting in quotation marks, and pick the shape for where you'll post it: 9:16 for stories and status, 4:5 for an Instagram post, 1:1 for a square. Text-capable models such as GPT Image 2.5 Sunburst letter short English greetings well, so "Happy Thanksgiving" comes out spelled right far more often than on older models. Updated 22 October 2026.

Below: the dates, the right sizes for each platform, which models handle text, step-by-step instructions, ideas for greetings, table settings, invitations and menus, and 24 prompts you can copy.

When is Thanksgiving 2026?

In the United States, Thanksgiving Day falls on the fourth Thursday of November. The U.S. Office of Personnel Management's federal holiday schedule lists Thanksgiving Day 2026 as Thursday, November 26. That puts Black Friday on 27 November and gives you about five weeks from today to plan cards, invitations and posts.

Canada celebrates Thanksgiving on the second Monday of October. The Canada Revenue Agency's public holidays page lists Thanksgiving Day 2026 as Monday, October 12, so if you're making images for Canadian friends or a Canadian audience, that date has already passed this year. For a "thank you for coming" post or a late greeting, drop the date and keep the wording general ("Grateful for this season").

Timing tip: make invitations two to three weeks ahead (early November for a US dinner), menus and table cards the week before, and greeting images a few days early so you aren't regenerating on Thursday morning while the oven is busy.

What size should a Thanksgiving image be?

Pick the shape first, because it decides where your text goes and what gets cropped.

Where you'll share itShapePixel sizeNotes
Instagram or Facebook story, WhatsApp status9:16 portrait1080 × 1920Keep text away from the very top and bottom, where the app shows your name and reply bar

Printed 5×7 card or menu5:7 (use 3:4 or 2:3 and crop)about 1500 × 2100 at 300 DPIGenerate at 2K, or upscale before printing

Instagram's help centre says photos are kept at up to 1080 pixels wide when their aspect ratio is between 1.91:1 and 4:5; anything taller or wider gets cropped. Stories and status have no official pixel size from WhatsApp, but 9:16 at 1080 × 1920 fills almost every phone screen.

On Kenerate, GPT Image 2.5 Sunburst offers 1:1, 3:4, 2:3, 4:5, 9:16, 16:9 and more in its ratio picker, so you generate in the right shape instead of cropping. If you already have a square image you love, the AI image extender can grow it into a 9:16 story, and the AI image upscaler takes a 1K design up to print size.

Which AI model is best for Thanksgiving images with text?

Most bad AI holiday images fail on the words: "Happy Thanksgivng", melted letters, or random squiggles on a banner. Use a model built for text when the greeting matters.

Credit figures are from Kenerate's model config on 22 October 2026. New accounts get 25 credits on sign-up, enough for three text images on GPT Image 2.5 Sunburst at 1K.

Rule of thumb: if the picture needs more than about eight words (a full menu, a long poem), generate the artwork with an empty panel ("a blank cream card in the centre, no text") and type the words on top in Canva or a phone editor. Typed text is always spelled right, and you can change a dish without regenerating the whole image.

How do you make a Thanksgiving image with AI?

  1. Open the Image Studio and pick GPT Image 2.5 Sunburst for anything with words, or Seedream 5.0 Pro for painted, text-free art.
  2. Choose the shape from the table above: 9:16 for stories, 4:5 for feed posts, 1:1 for squares, 3:4 for a card you'll print at 5×7.
  3. Describe the scene. Name the main subject (a roast turkey, a pumpkin pie, a table for eight), the setting, the colours (rust, mustard, cream, deep green) and the light (golden hour, candlelight).
  4. Add your greeting in quotes and say where it goes and how it looks: "Happy Thanksgiving" in cream serif letters across the top.
  5. Say what to leave out: "no other text, no watermark, no logos".
  6. Generate and check every letter. If a word is wrong, regenerate, or upload the image as a reference and ask for only the text to change ("change the text to 'Happy Thanksgiving', keep everything else the same").
  7. Personalise it: add "from the Rivera family" or your café's name on a smaller second line.
  8. Download and share, or upscale first if it's going to the printer. Kenerate downloads carry no watermark.

If what you want is a finished card with your message lettered in and print sizes worked out, the AI Thanksgiving card generator page walks through that specific job, including bleed and envelope sizes.

Thanksgiving greeting image ideas

A greeting image works when one thing is clearly the subject and the text has a clean place to sit. Ideas that work well:

  • The table: a long harvest table seen from above, the greeting on a linen runner or a chalkboard.
  • One object, close up: a slice of pumpkin pie, a single maple leaf, a mug of cider, with a soft dark background and the greeting in the empty space.
  • Seasonal landscape: a red barn, a foggy orchard or a pumpkin patch at golden hour, the words in the sky.
  • Typography-led: "Thankful" in big 3D letters made of autumn leaves or carved wood.
  • Gratitude lines: a short quote on a kraft-paper background with dried wheat.
  • Your pet: a dog in a knitted scarf beside a pumpkin is the most-shared kind of family greeting. Upload your pet's photo as a reference on GPT Image 2.5 Sunburst (7.2 + 4.5 = 11.7 credits at 1K) and say "keep the dog's face, markings and fur exactly the same".

Short greeting lines that fit on an image:

  • Happy Thanksgiving!
  • Grateful for you.
  • Thankful, grateful, full.
  • Gather, give thanks, eat pie.
  • From our table to yours, Happy Thanksgiving.
  • So much to be thankful for.
  • Happy Friendsgiving!
  • Thank you for being part of our year. (business)

How do you design a Thanksgiving table setting, invitation or menu with AI?

These three are where AI saves the most time, because they usually need to match.

Table-setting inspiration. Generate three or four table looks before you buy anything: "rustic farmhouse with burlap runner and mini pumpkins", "modern minimal with white plates, eucalyptus and brass candlesticks", "moody dark-green tablecloth with taper candles and pomegranates". Use 16:9 or 3:2 for a full table and 4:5 for a single place setting. Treat these as mood boards; real table widths, chair counts and dish sizes won't match a generated picture.

Invitations. Put the essentials in quotes: the title ("Friendsgiving"), date, time and address. Keep it to four short lines; for anything longer, generate the artwork with an empty panel and type the details in. A 4:5 or 9:16 image works for a group chat or Instagram invite; 5:7 for print. The AI invitation maker page has more layout tips for invitations in general.

Menus. AI is good at the frame (a wheat border, a watercolour pumpkin, a chalkboard texture) and less reliable at eight lines of dish names. Two ways to handle it:

  1. Ask for a menu with three or four short items in quotes and check every word, or
  2. Generate a "blank menu card with a decorative autumn border and an empty centre" and type the dishes yourself.

For restaurants and cafés posting a Thanksgiving prix-fixe, the AI menu generator covers menu layouts in more depth.

Keep a set consistent. Make the invitation first, then upload it as a reference for the menu and place cards ("same colours, same border, same font style"). Nano Banana 2.1 takes up to 14 reference images and GPT Image 2.5 Sunburst up to 16.

For people in the picture, describe adults ("a group of adult friends laughing around a table") and keep faces small or turned away for group scenes; AI group shots still produce odd hands and faces when you look closely. Kenerate's content filter blocks prompts about children, so family scenes work best as adults, pets or a table with no people.

What are the most common mistakes with AI Thanksgiving images?

  • Too much text. Eight words or fewer per image; type longer copy yourself.
  • Wrong shape. A 1:1 image posted as a story gets big blank bars; start in 9:16.
  • Text at the edges. Stories cover the top and bottom with app buttons. Keep words in the middle 70 percent.
  • Low resolution for print. A 1K image printed at 5×7 looks soft. Generate at 2K or run it through an upscaler first.
  • Mixed styles in one set. Reuse your first image as a reference so the invite, menu and post match.
  • Not checking the date. Thursday 26 November in the US, Monday 12 October in Canada. A wrong date on an invitation is the mistake guests notice.
