The best MCP server for AI image and video generation depends on what you want from it. As of 24 October 2026, managed servers such as Kenerate MCP, Higgsfield and OpenArt let you sign in and make media from many models using one credit balance. Developer platforms such as fal and Replicate expose their whole model catalog but bill per run, and single-vendor servers such as MiniMax MCP only cover that vendor's own models.
This guide compares the servers that are documented well enough to check. For each one we cover the models, how sign-in works, how you pay, and which clients it supports. Everything here comes from each vendor's own docs or pages, linked at the end. There are no invented rankings.
What is an MCP server for image and video generation?
The Model Context Protocol (MCP) is an open standard that lets an AI assistant call outside tools. An image or video MCP server gives the assistant tools such as generate_image or generate_video. When you type "make a 9:16 product clip of this bottle", the assistant picks a tool, fills in the arguments and runs the job. Then it hands you the result link, all without you leaving the chat.
Out of the box, Claude can't create pictures, as we explain in Can Claude generate images?. An MCP server is the cleanest way to add that ability to Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor or a coding agent.
There are two kinds of server:
- Remote (hosted) servers. You paste a URL such as
https://mcp.example.com/mcpinto your client and sign in. Nothing gets installed. - Local servers. Your client starts a small program on your computer (for example with
uvxornpx), and you supply an API key in an environment variable.
Which MCP servers are worth comparing in 2026?
We looked at servers that publish a setup page and can generate media themselves, not just call a wrapper around someone else's API:
- Kenerate MCP: our own server (we're biased, so we stick to facts).
- Higgsfield MCP: a hosted server for Higgsfield's creative platform.
- OpenArt MCP: a hosted server for OpenArt's creation tools.
- fal MCP: fal's model API platform for developers.
- Replicate MCP: Replicate's model-running API.
- MiniMax MCP: an open-source server for MiniMax's own image, video and speech APIs.
Plenty of community servers wrap these same APIs, but many of them are early or unmaintained. An official server is the safer starting point.
How do the top image and video MCP servers compare?
| Server | Connection | Sign-in | Media it covers | How you pay | Clients named in the docs |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Kenerate MCP | Remote: mcp.kenerateai.com/mcp | OAuth sign-in, or a ken_ API key | Image, video, music, speech, 3D, plus edits (upscale, background removal, subtitles, dubbing, avatars) | Your Kenerate app credits, at the same prices as the app; plans from $15 for 1,300 credits | Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor, VS Code, Claude Code, Codex, Gemini CLI |
| Higgsfield MCP | Remote: mcp.higgsfield.ai/mcp | Higgsfield says "no API key required" | "30+ models for image and video generation", plus 41 prebuilt workflows | Higgsfield account credits | Claude, Claude Code, ChatGPT, Telegram, CLI and others |
| OpenArt MCP | Remote, set up at openart.ai/mcp | OAuth and account sign-in | Image and video across OpenArt's model lineup | A shared credit pool, included on every paid plan from Starter | Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor and others |
| fal MCP | Remote: mcp.fal.ai/mcp-relay | OAuth browser sign-in | fal's model catalog (image, video, audio) | The server is free; you pay fal credits per run at API rates | ChatGPT, Claude, Claude Code, Codex CLI, Cursor, Grok |
| Replicate MCP | Remote: mcp.replicate.com, or local npx -y replicate-mcp | Replicate API token | Any model on Replicate (every HTTP API operation) | Per second of hardware time, or per output on some models | Claude Desktop (local), Claude Code, Cursor, VS Code Copilot, Codex CLI, Gemini CLI |
| MiniMax MCP | Local uvx minimax-mcp (stdio or SSE) | MINIMAX_API_KEY plus a host that matches your region | MiniMax image, video, text-to-speech, voice cloning, voice design | MiniMax API usage (the README warns that tools may incur costs) | Claude Desktop, Cursor, Windsurf, OpenAI Agents |

Kenerate MCP: what does it do?
Kenerate MCP connects your AI client to the same studio you use on kenerateai.com. It offers 29 tools, grouped as follows:
- Make:
generate_image,generate_video,generate_music,generate_speechandgenerate_3d. - Edit images:
upscale_image,remove_background,expand_image,change_camera_angle,apply_filterandsplit_layers. - Edit video:
upscale_video,add_subtitles,dub_video,restyle_video,talking_avatar,motion_controlandgenjutsu_video. - Plan before spending:
estimate_cost,get_balance,list_models,pick_model,pick_voice,suggest_workflowandtool_guide. - Track jobs:
get_generation,wait_for_generation,list_generationsandupload_media.
The video models on the MCP page include Seedance 2.5, Veo 3.1, Kling 3.0, Sora 2, Wan 3.0, Hailuo, Luma Ray, PixVerse, Vidu Q3, LTX and Pika, alongside Kenerate's own Ken 1.
Good to know:
- It uses your normal account. The credits, prices and history are the same as in the app, and results show up in your Kenerate library.
- Your agent can call
estimate_costbefore a paid job andget_balanceto check what you have. - Clients that support MCP sign-in (OAuth) don't need a key. The list includes Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor, VS Code, Claude Code, Codex and Gemini CLI. For scripts and servers, use a
ken_key instead. Only a hash of the key is stored, and you can keep up to 10. - The rate limit is 8 calls a second per account.
- Video and 3D need a paid plan, the same as in the app. Paid plans start at $15 for 1,300 credits (see plans).
Downsides: Kenerate MCP works only with a Kenerate account, and the free plan can't make video. It isn't a raw model API either: if you need a model Kenerate doesn't run, fal or Replicate gives you a wider catalog.
Higgsfield MCP: what does it offer?
Higgsfield's hosted server sits at https://mcp.higgsfield.ai/mcp. Its page promises "30+ models for image and video generation" with "no API key required", plus 41 ready-made workflows such as ad recreation, hook variations and UGC-style product reviews. It lists connection tabs for ChatGPT, Claude, Claude Code, Telegram and a CLI.
Good fit: marketers who already use Higgsfield and want its workflow presets inside chat. Watch out for: the MCP page doesn't name the models or the per-generation prices, so check your plan's credits before running a batch of videos. Lots of third-party "Higgsfield MCP" repos exist. Use the official URL unless you have a reason not to.
OpenArt MCP: who is it for?
OpenArt says its MCP authenticates through OAuth and account sign-in, with no API key. Generations draw from the same credit pool as the rest of OpenArt, and MCP access comes with every paid plan from Starter up. OpenArt's own guide adds that commercial usage rights start at its Plus plan.
Good fit: existing OpenArt subscribers. Watch out for: you need a paid plan to use MCP at all, and the licensing terms differ by tier.
fal MCP: is it better for developers?
fal's MCP docs list a remote server at https://mcp.fal.ai/mcp-relay with 11 tools. They cover finding a model (search_models, get_model_schema, get_pricing, recommend_model), running one (run_model, submit_job, check_job, get_job_result, cancel_job) and moving files (upload_file). The server itself is free: you pay fal credits for each run, at the same rate as a direct API call.
Good fit: developers who want to try many open and closed models and see the price of each one. Watch out for: the server is generic. You (or your agent) choose the model and fill in its schema yourself, and there are no built-in creative workflows. Watch spending carefully, because a busy agent can send off many jobs quickly.
Replicate MCP: how does it work?
Replicate offers a hosted server at mcp.replicate.com and a local npm package, replicate-mcp. Its MCP reference says the server supports every operation in Replicate's HTTP API: searching and comparing models, running them and fetching predictions. An experimental "code mode" goes further and lets the assistant write TypeScript against the Replicate SDK in a sandbox.
Most public models are billed by the second of hardware time. Some charge per output instead: Replicate's pricing page lists $0.04 per image for flux-1.1-pro.
Good fit: builders who already run models on Replicate, or who need community fine-tunes. Watch out for: you sign in with a Replicate API token, and Claude Desktop only supports the local server, not the remote one.
MiniMax MCP: when does a single-vendor server make sense?
The open-source MiniMax-MCP server (MIT licence) exposes MiniMax's own APIs through seven tools: text_to_image, generate_video, query_video_generation, text_to_audio, list_voices, voice_clone and voice_design. It runs locally with uvx minimax-mcp. You set MINIMAX_API_KEY, and MINIMAX_API_HOST must match your key's region (global or mainland), or you'll get an "invalid API key" error.
Good fit: people who only want MiniMax models (such as the Hailuo video line) and voice cloning, and who are comfortable with API keys. Watch out for: you get one vendor's models only, it needs local setup, and the README gives no pricing.
How do I choose the right MCP server?
Work through these questions in order:
- Do you want an app or an API? If you want to type "make me a video" and get a finished file, pick a managed server (Kenerate, Higgsfield, OpenArt). If you want raw model access and per-run billing, pick fal or Replicate.
- Which client do you use? Every server here works with Claude. For ChatGPT, check that the vendor supports connectors or apps (Kenerate, Higgsfield, OpenArt and fal say they do).
- Do you need more than images and video? If you also want music, speech, dubbing, subtitles or 3D from the same connection, a broader toolset saves you juggling several servers.
- How do you want to pay? Credit plans keep spending predictable. Per-second billing can be cheaper for experiments, but it's harder to budget.
- Can the agent check prices first? Look for a pricing tool (Kenerate's
estimate_cost, fal'sget_pricing) so the assistant can tell you the cost before it spends.
How do I connect an image MCP server to Claude?
The steps below use Kenerate. They're nearly the same for any remote server.
- Open kenerateai.com/app/mcp and copy the server URL (
https://mcp.kenerateai.com/mcp). - Claude.ai or Claude Desktop: open Settings → Connectors, add a custom connector, paste the URL, then sign in to Kenerate and click Allow.
- Claude Code: run
claude mcp add --transport http kenerate https://mcp.kenerateai.com/mcp, then sign in when asked. Our Claude Code image guide walks through it. - Ask for something small first, such as "estimate the cost of one 1:1 image, then make it". That confirms the connection without spending much.
- For video, ask for a cheap 5-second, 720p draft first, then upscale the clip you want to keep.
If you'd rather not set up MCP at all, the Claude AI image generator page shows the same models in a regular browser studio.
Are MCP image generators safe to use?
MCP servers act on your account, so treat them like any app you sign in to:
- Approve spending tools. Most clients ask before a tool runs. Leave that on for generation tools, at least until you trust the setup.
- Prefer OAuth over pasted keys. If you do use a key, keep it out of prompts, chats and committed config files.
- Use the official URL. Directories list many look-alike servers for popular brands.
- Know the content rules. Hosted servers apply the same moderation as their apps. For example, Kenerate refuses content involving minors, sexual content of real people and illegal content in every client.
Bottom line
There's no single best MCP server for everyone. For the widest range of creative tools on one predictable credit balance, use a managed server: Kenerate MCP covers image, video, music, speech and 3D from Claude, ChatGPT or Cursor. For raw model choice and per-run billing, fal and Replicate are the developer picks. If you're already committed to Higgsfield, OpenArt or MiniMax, their own servers are the shortest path.
