The Freepik AI image generator is worth it if you also want a stock library and generate images every week, because the Premium+ and Pro plans make most image models unlimited. It's a weaker deal if you generate in bursts: as of 1 November 2026, plan credits expire at each refresh and there are no free trials of paid plans. One more thing that confuses people: Freepik's AI tools now live under a new name, Magnific, and freepik.com redirects there.
This review is built only from Freepik's (now Magnific's) own pricing page, plan docs, credit docs and image generator page, read on 1 November 2026. We didn't run a hands-on benchmark, and we don't give it a star rating. Instead, you'll find what you actually get, what it costs in credits, where the fine print bites, and when a pay-as-you-go tool is a better fit.
What is the Freepik AI image generator in 2026?
It's a multi-model text-to-image and image-to-image tool. You pick a model (or leave it on Auto), type a prompt, add reference images if you want, and keep editing on the same page. Freepik's own page describes it as "every leading image model in one place".
The big change this year is the name. According to Freepik's announcement page, on 28 April 2026 Freepik brought all its AI tools together under the Magnific brand. Your Freepik account, plan and credits carry over, and magnific.com is now the official site. Typing freepik.com/pricing or freepik.com/ai/image-generator sends you to the Magnific version of the page. If you came here searching "Freepik AI", that's the product we're reviewing.
Alongside the generator, the same subscription includes the stock library (photos, vectors, PSDs, icons, videos and templates), editing tools, video, audio and Spaces, a shared canvas. We covered Spaces separately in what Freepik Spaces is.
Which AI models does the Freepik image generator offer?
As of 1 November 2026, the generator page lists 12 model families and says "fifteen-plus models" are available, with new ones added most months. The page was last updated on 22 October 2026.
| Family | Maker | Models named on the page |
|---|---|---|
| Nano Banana | Nano Banana 2, Nano Banana 2 Lite, Nano Banana Pro | |
| Seedream | ByteDance | Seedream 5, Seedream 4 4K |
| Flux | Black Forest Labs | Flux.2 Max, Flux.2 Flex, Flux.2 Klein, Flux Kontext |
| GPT Image | OpenAI | GPT Image 2 |
| Ideogram | Ideogram | Ideogram 4 |
| Recraft | Recraft | Recraft V4.1 |
| Mystic | Magnific (in-house) | Mystic 2.5 |
| Others | xAI, Alibaba, Tongyi, Luma AI, Magnific | Grok Imagine, Qwen, Z Image, Luma Photon, Classic |
The page also claims up to 14 reference images when editing with references, and output up to 4K on several models. The pricing page adds Magnific One, a new in-house model with a Brand Kit, included in all paid plans.
That's a genuinely strong line-up. Most of the families people search for are there, plus the in-house Mystic and Magnific One models you can't get elsewhere.
How much does Freepik AI cost?
Plans are sold monthly or annually. The pricing page shows prices in your local currency, so we saw different currencies on different pages: the image generator page listed individual plans "From €12/mo billed annually" and Business at €47 per seat per month billed annually. Check the pricing page from your own country before you budget. Here's what each plan includes, from the plans-and-pricing docs:
| Plan | AI credits | Unlimited image generation | Extra credits | Licence |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Free | No credit balance, a daily cap | No | Can't buy | Personal use, attribution required |
| Premium | 20,000/month (240,000/year on annual) | No | Can't buy | Commercial, no attribution |
| Premium+ | 45,000/month (600,000/year on annual) | Yes, most image models | Yes | Commercial, no attribution |
| Pro (2 tiers) | 112,500 or 300,000/month (1.5M or 4M/year) | Yes, most image models | Yes | Commercial, plus Merchandise Licence |
| Business | 45,000 per seat/month, shared pool | Yes, most image models | Yes, by the admin | One commercial licence for the team |
| Enterprise | Custom | Custom | Custom | Custom terms |
Two details matter more than the headline numbers:
- "Unlimited" means image generation only. The docs say some premium image models, and all video, audio and editing tools, still use credits on Premium+, Pro and Business.
- Premium has no unlimited tier and no top-ups. When its credits run out, you wait for the refresh or upgrade.
How many images do Freepik credits actually buy?
It depends heavily on the model. The credit docs say standard image models typically cost 5 to 100 credits per generation, and premium ones up to 500+. The pricing page lists a few exact costs:
| Model (on the pricing page) | Credits per image | Images from Premium's 20,000 monthly credits |
|---|---|---|
| Magnific One High 2K | 180 | about 111 |
| Magnific One High 4K | 250 | 80 |
| Nano Banana 2, 4K | 150 | about 133 |
| Nano Banana Pro, 4K | 150 | about 133 |
| Magnific Precision, 2K | 90 | about 222 |
The last column is our arithmetic, not a Freepik figure. On Premium+ and Pro, many of these generations wouldn't use credits at all, because most image models are unlimited. On Premium, every image comes out of the 20,000.
Freepik also says it can change credit costs "at any time, without prior notice", so treat these as a snapshot from 1 November 2026. The exact cost of any job is shown on the generate button before you confirm.
Is the Freepik AI image generator free?
Yes, with limits, and Freepik's own pages describe it slightly differently:
- The generator page says "20 free images a day. No card required", and its FAQ says the free plan includes a daily allowance "across every model".
- The plans docs say the free plan allows "up to 20 AI image generations per day with the in-house model", with other AI tools unavailable or "significantly restricted".
Either way, free images are for personal use only, with attribution, and you can't buy extra credits on the free plan. Freepik also states it does not currently offer free trials of paid plans. If you need clean, no-attribution images for a client or a shop, you'll need Premium or higher.
If a free tool without attribution is what you're after, we compared options in our free AI image generator without a watermark guide.
Do Freepik AI credits roll over?
No. The credit docs say it plainly: "Unused plan credits don't roll over. Your plan credits are valid until your next credit refresh." On annual billing, the pricing page says credits are "valid for 1 year, no monthly resets", so you get the whole year's credits up front, but anything unused at the yearly refresh still expires.
There are two exceptions:
- Extra credits (Premium+, Pro and Business only) last 3 years after purchase. But they're used last, and the docs say they're forfeited if you cancel your subscription.
- Roll-over credits only appear when you upgrade mid-cycle. They last until the end of that billing cycle and don't carry over again.
All paid plans renew automatically. If you cancel, you keep your plan's benefits and credits until the end of the billing period.
Can you use Freepik AI images commercially?
On paid plans, yes. The generator page says "You own what you generate, commercial use included on paid plans," and Business and Enterprise add legal indemnification for third-party copyright claims. The free plan is personal use with attribution only.
Two more points from the same page that are worth knowing:
- Freepik says it never uses your prompts, references or results to train models, on any plan.
- Generation follows an acceptable use policy, and "some subjects are blocked across all models".
The Merchandise Licence on Pro is about putting non-AI Premium stock assets on physical products, up to 100,000 units per asset. It isn't a separate licence for AI images.
What are the pros and cons of Freepik AI?
Pros
- A big, current model line-up. Nano Banana, Seedream, Flux, GPT Image, Ideogram, Recraft and more, plus in-house Mystic and Magnific One.
- Unlimited image generation on Premium+ and up. For people generating every day, this is the strongest reason to pick it.
- Stock and AI in one subscription. 250M+ stock assets sit next to the generator, which no AI-only tool can match.
- Clear privacy promise. No training on your work, on any plan.
- It reaches into other tools. Freepik lists MCP access from Claude, ChatGPT and Cursor, plus Photoshop and Figma plugins.
Cons
- Plan credits expire. Use them before the refresh or lose them.
- "Unlimited" has edges. Premium image models, video, audio and editing tools still cost credits.
- The entry paid plan is the most limited. Premium has no unlimited generation and no top-ups.
- No free trial of paid plans, and the free plan requires attribution.
- Credit costs can change without notice, so long-term budgeting is harder.
- The rebrand adds friction. Docs, URLs and search results are split between Freepik and Magnific names.
Who should pick Freepik AI, and who shouldn't?
| You are… | Freepik AI fits? | Why |
|---|---|---|
| A designer who also downloads stock every week | Yes | Stock, AI and editing in one bill |
| A daily, high-volume image maker | Yes, on Premium+ or Pro | Most image models are unlimited |
| A team of 2–100 sharing work | Probably | Shared credit pool, shared Spaces |
| Someone who creates in bursts every few months | Not ideal | Plan credits expire at each refresh |
| Someone who wants one tool with no subscription | No | Every paid option is a recurring plan |
| A free user who needs commercial rights | No | Free plan is personal use with attribution |
How is Kenerate AI different from Freepik AI?
Kenerate AI is a pay-as-you-go alternative, built for people who don't want a monthly plan. The differences, as of 1 November 2026:
- One-time credits that never expire. Credit packs start at $15 for 1,300 credits ($29 for 2,700, $49 for 4,800, and larger packs). There's no subscription, and Kenerate's terms state purchased credits don't expire.
- 80+ image models in one studio, with exact per-image prices. Examples at 1K: Seedream 5.0 Pro 13.5 credits, Ideogram v4 15, GPT Image 2 (medium) 18, Nano Banana 2.1 21 (42 at 4K), Recraft V4.1 12, Flux 2 Pro 9.
- A free start. New accounts get 25 free credits for the free-plan models (Flux 2 and Qwen Image).
- Ownership. Kenerate's terms say it claims no ownership of what you generate and you may use it commercially, subject to the terms and the conditions of the model you pick.
So that $15 pack covers roughly 96 Seedream 5.0 Pro images or 61 Nano Banana 2.1 images at 1K. Keep in mind that a Kenerate credit and a Freepik credit are different units, so compare the cost per image, not the credit totals.
Where Freepik is honestly better: Kenerate has no stock library, no unlimited plan, and doesn't run Mystic, Magnific One or Nano Banana Pro. If you generate hundreds of images every week, Premium+ unlimited can work out cheaper. If you generate in bursts, never-expiring credits waste nothing. Our Freepik alternative page puts the two side by side, and the Magnific AI alternative page covers upscaling.
How to try both before you pay
- Write three prompts you'd really use: a product shot, a poster with text and a portrait.
- Run them on Freepik's free plan. Note which model actually produced them, since the free docs mention the in-house model.
- Run the same prompts on Kenerate's free credits in the AI image generator, using the free Flux 2 and Qwen Image models.
- Compare cost per finished image for the model you'd actually use, for example on the Seedream model page.
- Count your real monthly volume. If it's high and steady, a Freepik plan with unlimited generation makes sense. If it's uneven, one-time credits are safer.
The verdict
As of 1 November 2026, the Freepik AI image generator (now Magnific) is a strong, broad tool. It offers a wide model line-up, unlimited image generation on Premium+ and up, a privacy promise and a huge stock library in the same bill. Its weak spots are the subscription mechanics: plan credits that expire, a Premium tier without unlimited generation or top-ups, no paid-plan trial and a free plan limited to personal use with attribution. Buy it if you'll use it every week and want stock too. If you create in bursts or don't want another subscription, a one-time-credit tool like Kenerate is the simpler fit.
Updated 1 November 2026. Freepik/Magnific facts come from magnific.com's pricing page, plans-and-pricing docs, AI credits and limits docs, AI image generator page and the "Freepik AI is now Magnific" page, all read on that date (freepik.com redirects there). Prices are localised by country, and Freepik says credit costs can change without notice. Kenerate credit costs come from the app's model configuration and plan list. All of these can change.
