Seedance 2.5 is ByteDance's newest AI video generator. ByteDance's Seed team released it on July 31, 2026 (Seed blog), and BytePlus opened it to developers on ModelArk in early August. What is Seedance 2.5?

Seed describes Seedance 2.5 as "a next-generation audio-video joint generation model, built for 30-second storytelling with precise reference control and powerful editing capabilities" (Seedance 2.5 model page). Video and sound come out of the same pass, so footsteps, ambience and dialogue line up with the picture instead of being added later.

It succeeds Seedance 2.0, which launched in February 2026 and topped out at 15 seconds. Version 2.5 doubles the single-shot length and expands the reference system from a handful of inputs to 50. It's aimed at advertising, e-commerce and short-form storytelling, where one coherent take beats stitched fragments (BytePlus announcement).

Seedance 2.5 features that matter

30-second single takes, extendable

Seedance 2.5 generates up to 30 seconds in one request, up from 15 seconds in the Seedance 2.0 series (BytePlus tutorial). Seed's model page says you can "extend twice" for longer stories. The API accepts durations from 4 to 30 seconds, or -1 to let the model choose the length.

Up to 50 omni references

One request can include 30 images, 10 video clips and 10 audio clips. Images lock character look, wardrobe and style. Videos carry camera language, blocking and motion. Timestamp-level editing and extension

Seed's launch post highlights "timestamp-level control for targeted editing of audio and video content." A note on 4K

Coverage of the June 23 announcement described Seedance 2.5 as native 4K with 10-bit color (The Next Web). The shipped BytePlus API documentation lists 480p, 720p and 1080p output for Seedance 2.5, with 10-bit color at 1080p. In the Seedance 2.0 series, BytePlus marks 4K output as "supported only by Seedance 2.0." If you need a 4K master today, plan on Seedance 2.0 or an upscaling pass.
