No, Grok Imagine videos are not public just because you made them, as far as xAI's own pages say. As of 1 November 2026, xAI's privacy policy and consumer FAQ describe sharing as something you choose: a video becomes visible to others when you create a share link, post it to X, or download it and upload it somewhere else. Two caveats matter more than the headline, though: a share link works for anyone who has it (and can end up in search results), and xAI's terms give it a broad licence over what you create, including the right to display it "in public forums".

This guide covers what xAI's privacy policy, FAQ and terms actually say (checked 1 November 2026), what they don't say, how to keep your Grok videos private, how to delete them, and how storage works on Kenerate AI if you'd rather run Grok Imagine somewhere else.

Are Grok Imagine videos public by default?

No official xAI page we could find says that Imagine videos are published automatically. Here is what the official documents do say:

  • The privacy policy (on x.ai, last updated 27 October 2026; it now names the company SpaceX Super Intelligence LLC, "SpaceXSI") covers the Grok apps and grok.com. It says certain features "may allow you to share information with third-parties, such as through the X platform", and that anything you share that way falls under the third party's own terms.
  • The consumer FAQ answers "Can I share my Grok conversations?" with "Yes, you control what you choose to share", and explains that the share button creates a public share link.
  • The FAQ also warns that a share link "will be accessible to anyone you choose to share the link with", and that a link posted on social media may be indexed by search engines such as Google.

What none of these pages do is spell out Imagine-specific visibility rules. The FAQ talks about "conversations", and the help text for share links doesn't say whether Imagine posts are listed there. So the honest answer is: private until you share, according to xAI's general rules, but xAI doesn't publish a separate Imagine privacy page.

Third-party guides disagree with each other on this point. Some say generations are public by default, others say they stay private until shared. None of the ones we read cite an official xAI source for the "public by default" claim, so we don't repeat it as fact.

Do Grok videos get posted to X automatically?

Not according to xAI's documents. Posting to X is a share action you take. Two details are worth knowing:

  1. Grok on X has a different privacy policy. xAI's policy says that if you use Grok inside X, your use "is governed by the X Privacy Policy and X Terms", not xAI's. If you make videos through the Grok tab in the X app, check X's settings too.
  2. Shared Imagine posts carry your prompt. A third-party wiki that documents the feature (Tech Dev Notes, September 2025) reports that videos shared to X get a "Generated with Grok Imagine" caption with the original prompt. Read your prompt before you post. It may say more than the video does.

What does xAI's policy say about your videos?

Here's a summary of the parts that matter for Imagine users, taken from xAI's own pages as of 1 November 2026:

QuestionWhat xAI's pages saySource
Are creations shared automatically? No such statement. Sharing is described as your choice.Consumer FAQ
Who can open a share link?Anyone you give it to. Public posts of it may be indexed by Google.Consumer FAQ
Can you revoke share links?Yes for conversations, at grok.com/share-links. Imagine posts aren't mentioned.Consumer FAQ
What licence does xAI get?An irrevocable, worldwide licence to your inputs and content, including to "display in public forums".Terms of Service
Is your content used for training? It may be, unless you turn off "Improve the model" or use Private Chat.Consumer FAQ
How long does deletion take?Up to 30 days, unless kept longer for legal, compliance or safety reasons.Privacy policy, FAQ
Does Grok on X follow the same rules? No. Grok on X follows X's privacy policy and terms.Privacy policy
Do API video links last? No. The API returns temporary URLs, so download what you want to keep.xAI API docs

The licence line is the one people miss. It doesn't mean xAI will publish your video, but it means the terms allow uses well beyond storing it for you. If that's a deal-breaker, the setting to change is training, and the habit to change is what you upload.

How do I keep my Grok Imagine videos private?

You can't make a video "more private" than not sharing it, but these steps cut down how far it can travel:

  1. Don't create share links you don't need. Download the file and send it directly instead.
  2. Review your share links. Open grok.com/share-links and click "Remove" next to anything you no longer want online. xAI documents this for conversations. Check whether your Imagine posts appear there too.
  3. Turn off training. In the Grok app, go to Settings, then Data Controls, and deselect "Improve the model". On grok.com, go to Settings, then Data. xAI says this applies to your new conversations from then on.
  4. Use Private Chat for prompts you don't want saved. xAI says Private Chat conversations don't appear in your history, aren't used for training, and are deleted within 30 days.
  5. Check X separately. If you use Grok inside X, its data-sharing settings live under X's Privacy and Safety menu.
  6. Keep personal details out of prompts and uploads. xAI's FAQ asks you not to share personal or sensitive information. A photo of your home, your kids or your ID card has no place in a test prompt.

How do I delete Grok Imagine videos?

xAI's FAQ explains deletion for conversations and accounts. It doesn't give separate steps for Imagine media, so the steps below combine the official account controls with how the Imagine library works today:

  • One item: in the Grok app or on grok.com, open Imagine, open the video and use its menu or the heart icon to remove it from your saved items. A September 2026 guide from CometAPI reports that a video you shared as a post may need a separate "Delete Post" step.
  • All conversations: in the app, Settings, then Data Controls, then "Delete All Conversations". On grok.com, it's in Settings.
  • Your whole account: "Delete Account" in the same menus.
  • How long it takes: xAI says data is deleted within 30 days of your request, unless it has to be kept for legal, compliance or safety reasons, or has been de-identified and disconnected from your account.

Deleting from Grok doesn't remove copies you posted elsewhere. If you posted a video to X, delete the post on X. If someone saved or reposted it, that copy is outside your control.

A third-party wiki (Tech Dev Notes) says that once an Imagine link is shared publicly, it "remains public and cannot be deleted or unshared". We couldn't confirm that on any xAI page. xAI's FAQ says conversation share links can be revoked, but it doesn't mention Imagine posts. Treat any public link as something that can be copied, and check your share-links page rather than relying on either claim.

Can you upload videos to Grok, and can Grok edit videos?

Yes, through the video features xAI documents:

  • Video editing: xAI's API docs describe editing an existing video with the grok-imagine-video model. The edited clip keeps the original's length, which is "capped at 8.7 seconds", and its aspect ratio. Output is capped at 720p.
  • Video extension: the same docs describe extending a clip from its last frame.
  • Image-to-video: you upload a still and it becomes the first frame.

The docs don't list file-size or format limits for the consumer app, and they don't say anything about the visibility of uploaded clips. The same rules as above apply: uploads are part of your content under xAI's terms, and the policy's deletion timeline covers them.

How does Kenerate store Grok Imagine videos?

Kenerate runs two Grok Imagine models in its Grok Imagine video generator: Grok Imagine 1.5 (1–15 seconds, 480p to 1080p) and the original Grok Imagine (6 or 10 seconds, with video edit and extend). Here's what Kenerate's privacy policy (last updated 28 October 2026) and app code show about visibility:

Kenerate
Default visibility"Your library is private by default."
What makes something publicOnly something you do: a share link, a submission to the community showcase, or a persona or game you set to public.
Community showcaseYou submit an item yourself. Submissions from regular accounts are saved as "pending" until staff approve them, and staff can't publish a generation you didn't submit.
Image studioAn extra "Private" switch under Advanced settings marks an image as private.
File linksFiles are served from direct web links, so anyone with a file's link can open it.
DeletingDelete creations from your library, or delete your account from Settings (recoverable for 30 days).

Kenerate's terms screen says the same thing in one line: "Your library is private. Creations go public only when you share them." Prompts and uploads still go to the AI provider that runs the job, as with any hosted model, so the advice about personal details applies here too.

If you want Grok's look with a private-by-default library, or another model entirely, compare the options on the Grok Imagine alternative page. Video runs on paid credit packs, and the studio shows the credit cost before you generate.

Bottom line

  • Grok Imagine videos aren't described as public by default in any official xAI document we found (as of 1 November 2026).
  • They become public when you share them, and a share link works for anyone who has it.
  • xAI's terms grant a broad licence over your content, and training is on unless you switch it off.
  • Deleting takes up to 30 days on xAI's side and doesn't remove copies posted elsewhere.
