Happy Horse 1.1 is the cheaper pick at 720p and 1080p and the simpler one for character shots: up to 9 reference images, sound always on, 42 credits a second at 720p on Kenerate AI. Seedance 2.0 costs more at the same resolution (72 credits a second at 720p) but does more: 480p drafts, 4K, 21:9, reference video and audio clips, video editing and a sound-off switch. Pick Happy Horse for talking or multi-reference shots at 720p–1080p; pick Seedance 2.0 when you need reference clips, editing, 4K or the cheapest 480p drafts.
This comparison is current as of 2 November 2026. Specs and credit prices come from Kenerate's own video model config; model background comes from Alibaba and ByteDance. We have not run the same prompt through both models, so there is no quality score here, only facts, real Happy Horse clips we made, and an honest note on what others have tested.
What are Happy Horse 1.1 and Seedance 2.0?
Happy Horse 1.1 is Alibaba's video model, released on 22 June 2026 as the second version of the Happy Horse line (1.0 went into limited beta in April 2026). Alibaba describes 1.1 as an upgrade in motion expression, character consistency, instruction following, visual texture and audio, aimed at short dramas, e-commerce ads, brand marketing and game CG (Alibaba Cloud). It generates picture and sound together, with lip-sync in seven languages: English, Mandarin, Cantonese, Japanese, Korean, German and French (Artlist). The headline addition over 1.0 is reference to video: you give it several images of a character, product or place and it keeps them in the clip.
Seedance 2.0 is ByteDance Seed's audio-video model, released in China in February 2026. It takes text, image, audio and video inputs and generates sound and picture in one "joint generation" architecture, with ByteDance highlighting motion stability and director-style control over performance, light and camera (ByteDance Seed). Its reference system is broader: images plus video clips and audio clips in the same request.
For a deeper look at each model on its own, see our Happy Horse 1.1 explainer and how to use Seedance 2.0.
How do the specs compare?
All numbers below are what Kenerate runs, from its model config (video-models.ts) as of 2 November 2026.

| Resolutions | 720p, 1080p | 480p, 720p, 1080p, 4K |
| Aspect ratios | 16:9, 9:16, 1:1, 4:3, 3:4 | 16:9, 9:16, 4:3, 3:4, 1:1, 21:9 |
| Reference images | Up to 9 | Up to 9 |
| Reference video clips | None | Up to 3 (15 s total) |
| Reference audio | None | Up to 3 (15 s total) |
| Image to video | Start frame only | Start frame, optional end frame |
| Sound | Native, always on | Native, can be switched off (same price) |
| Credits per second | 42 (720p) · 56.7 (1080p) | 36 (480p) · 72 (720p) · 180 (1080p) · 360 (4K) |
| Cheaper versions | None | Seedance 2 Fast, Seedance 2.0 Mini |
Three differences matter most in practice:
- Price at the same resolution. At 720p Happy Horse is 42 credits a second against 72 for Seedance 2.0. At 1080p the gap is much wider: 56.7 against 180.
- What counts as a reference. Both take 9 images, but only Seedance 2.0 also takes motion clips and audio clips. If you want to copy a camera move from a video or drive a scene from a voice track, that's Seedance.
- Editing. Seedance 2.0 can edit an existing clip in Kenerate's Video Studio. Happy Horse 1.1 cannot; it generates and extends only.
How much does each cost on Kenerate AI?
Kenerate charges per second of output. Here's what common lengths cost, worked out from the rates above.
| Clip | Happy Horse 1.1 (720p) | Happy Horse 1.1 (1080p) | Seedance 2.0 (480p) | Seedance 2.0 (720p) | Seedance 2.0 (1080p) |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 5 s | 210 | 284 | 180 | 360 | 900 |
| 10 s | 420 | 567 | 360 | 720 | 1,800 |
| 15 s | 630 | 851 | 540 | 1,080 | 2,700 |
Seedance 2.0 at 4K is 360 credits a second, so 1,800 for 5 seconds. If you want to stay in the Seedance family for less, Seedance 2.0 Mini costs 36 credits a second at 720p (180 for 5 seconds) and Seedance 2 Fast costs 60 (300 for 5 seconds). Every version is listed on the Seedance 2.0 model page.
How are references billed?
- Happy Horse 1.1: reference images don't change the price. A 5-second 720p clip with 9 reference images costs the same 210 credits as one with none.
- Seedance 2.0: reference images alone keep the normal rate. Attach a reference video clip and you pay for the clip seconds plus the output seconds at a lower reference rate (45 credits a second at 720p). An 8-second 720p clip with a 5-second motion reference costs (5 + 8) × 45 = 585 credits.
How is extending billed?
On Happy Horse 1.1 you set the final length of the extended clip and pay for that length (extending to 10 seconds at 720p is 420 credits). On Seedance 2.0 you pay only for the new seconds at the normal rate (5 extra seconds at 720p is 360).
Which one makes better videos?
We can't give you a fair verdict yet, and we won't invent one. Here is what exists:
- Our own tests: we have not run the same prompt through Happy Horse 1.1 and Seedance 2.0. We have five real Happy Horse 1.1 clips (below) and no Seedance 2.0 clips of our own on file, so there is nothing side by side to show.
- Third-party test: PixVerse ran three prompts through Happy Horse 1.0 (not 1.1) and Seedance 2.0, one clip each, with audio on. Its scoring, which it describes itself and which is unblinded and small, favoured Happy Horse on visual quality, audio and lip-sync and Seedance on camera work in all three tests (PixVerse). PixVerse sells both models, and the test predates 1.1.
- The makers' claims: Alibaba says 1.1 improves character consistency and audio over 1.0; ByteDance says Seedance 2.0 leads its internal benchmark for text, image and multimodal video. Neither is an independent comparison.
The practical answer is to run your own prompt on both. On Kenerate both models sit in the same Video Studio, so one 5-second test costs 210 credits on Happy Horse at 720p and 180 on Seedance 2.0 at 480p.
What do real Happy Horse 1.1 clips look like?
These are Happy Horse 1.1 image-to-video clips we made on 27 September 2026 from our own start images: 720p, 5 seconds, with the sound the model generated (210 credits each). They are Happy Horse 1.1 only; there is no Seedance 2.0 version of these prompts.
The spoken line is written in quotes, which is how you ask either model for dialogue.
The other three clips (a samurai in cherry blossoms, a Lisbon tram and a border collie) are on the Happy Horse 1.1 page. When we have a Seedance 2.0 clip from the same start frame and prompt, we'll add it here labelled.
Which should you use for each job?
| Job | Pick | Why |
|---|---|---|
| A character speaking a line | Happy Horse 1.1 | Native dialogue and lip-sync in 7 languages, cheaper at 720p |
| Same character or product from several photos | Happy Horse 1.1 | 9 reference images at no extra cost |
| 1080p finals on a budget | Happy Horse 1.1 | 56.7 credits a second against 180 |
| Cheapest drafts | Seedance 2.0 (480p) or Seedance 2.0 Mini | 36 or 18 credits a second; Happy Horse starts at 720p |
| Copying a camera move or action from a video | Seedance 2.0 | Takes up to 3 reference clips |
| Driving a scene from a voice or music track | Seedance 2.0 | Takes up to 3 reference audio files |
| Changing an existing clip | Seedance 2.0 | Has a video edit mode on Kenerate |
| 4K or 21:9 cinema format | Seedance 2.0 | Happy Horse tops out at 1080p and has no 21:9 |
| Silent b-roll | Seedance 2.0 | Sound can be switched off at the same price |
How should you prompt each model?
Both read plain-English shot descriptions, and the same base prompt works on both: subject, one action, one camera move, light, and sound.
For Happy Horse 1.1:
- Put dialogue in quotes and name the voice: she says "Welcome back!" in a calm, warm voice.
- With several reference images, say what each one is for: Image 1 is the character, Image 2 is the jacket, Image 3 is the café.
- Name the sound you want, because sound is always generated: ambience, effects or silence-like room tone.
For Seedance 2.0:
- Refer to inputs by type and number: the woman from Image 1 repeats the camera move from Video 1, with the music from Audio 1.
- Spell out the camera, since camera control is where Seedance is usually praised: slow dolly-in, then a low-angle tracking shot.
- Switch sound off for b-roll you'll score later.

The short version
Happy Horse 1.1 and Seedance 2.0 both make 15-second clips with native sound and take 9 reference images. Happy Horse is cheaper at 720p and much cheaper at 1080p, and is built around dialogue and character references. Seedance 2.0 costs more per second at the same resolution but adds 480p drafts, 4K, 21:9, reference clips and audio, video editing and a sound-off switch. There is no fair same-prompt comparison yet, ours included, so test your own shot on both in the Kenerate AI video generator before committing a budget.
