How do you make a letterhead with AI?

An AI letterhead generator designs the branded top (and often bottom) of your company paper — logo, colours, a rule and the contact block — from a short description. On Kenerate AI, GPT Image 2.5 Sunburst takes your logo as a reference and draws a header band or a full A4 or US Letter page at 7.2 credits a design at 1K (21 at 4K). The result is an image (PNG, JPG or WebP), not an editable Word file: put it in the header in Word or Google Docs and type the address, phone and email as real text, so they're always spelled right and easy to change.

Tips

Get a letterhead you can actually use

The design is the easy part. Getting it into a document cleanly is where most AI letterheads fail.

  • Make the header as a wide band (4:1 or 3:1), not a whole page — it drops straight into Word's header.

  • Attach your logo and write “place this logo on the left, unchanged”; then compare it with the original.

  • Keep the address, phone and email out of the image, or check them character by character — type them in Word instead.

  • Leave the middle of the page white: the letter is the point, the brand frames it.

  • Render at 4K or upscale; a Letter-wide header at 300 DPI is about 2550 px across.

  • Keep text and the logo a quarter inch inside the page edge so a printer can't trim them.

FAQ

AI Letterhead Generator questions

How do I make a letterhead with AI?

Open Kenerate's Image Studio, pick GPT Image 2.5 Sunburst and a 3:1 ratio, attach your logo, and describe the header: “a slim navy band across the top, this logo on the left unchanged, ‘Northfield Studio’ in a clean serif beside it, lots of white space”. Download the PNG, put it in the header in Word or Google Docs, and type your contact details below it.

Does the AI letterhead generator give me a Word (DOCX) file?

Not directly. Image models make a picture — PNG, JPG or WebP — not an editable Word file. To use it as a letterhead, open your document's header and insert the picture; the letter itself stays typeable. Kenerate Agent can also write an editable A4 Word document in chat with your letterhead image placed at the top, but that picture sits in the body of page one rather than in a header that repeats on every page.

What size is a letterhead?

US Letter is 8.5×11 inches and A4 is 210×297 mm. At 300 DPI that's 2550×3300 pixels for Letter and 2480×3508 for A4. Print shops ask for 0.125 in (3 mm) of bleed on each side if colour runs to the edge — 8.75×11.25 in for Letter, per 4OVER4 — and want text kept inside the safe area.

What margins should a letterhead have?

Word starts every page with one-inch margins, which suits a letter body. Keep the logo and any text in the header at least a quarter inch from the page edge, and keep the header to about the top two inches so the letter starts high enough. If the design has a footer strip, leave the bottom inch for it.

Should the address and phone number be part of the image?

Better not. Image models can swap a digit in a phone number or a letter in an email, and you can't fix a typo in a picture as easily as in text. Put the company name and the design in the image, and type the address, phone, email and website in the header as real text — they stay correct, searchable and easy to update.

Will it print sharply?

Render at 4K, or upscale with Kenerate's Image Upscaler (up to 8K) before printing. A header the width of a Letter page needs about 2550 pixels across at 300 DPI. The output is a raster image, not a vector file, so very fine lines can soften at large sizes; keep rules at least half a point thick.

Is the AI letterhead generator free?

Free to start. A new Kenerate account gets 25 credits on sign-up — three GPT Image 2.5 Sunburst designs at 1K — and Qwen Image 3.0 is a free-plan model. After that, credits come in one-time packs that never expire, with no subscription. Downloads carry no watermark.

In depth

AI Letterhead Generator, explained

What works, what to avoid, and how to pick a model.

Letterhead sizes, ratios and pixels

Pick the shape before you generate. Pixels are at 300 DPI:

  • US Letter page, 8.5×11 in: 3:4, trim a little off the bottom; 2550×3300 px.
  • A4 page, 210×297 mm: 3:4, trim the sides; 2480×3508 px.
  • Header band, about 8.5×2 in (Letter) or 210×50 mm (A4): 4:1 on Nano Banana 2.1, or 3:1 on GPT Image 2.5 Sunburst; about 2550×600 px.
  • Footer strip, about 8.5×1 in: 8:1 on Nano Banana 2.1; about 2550×300 px.
  • Bleed for print: 0.125 in (3 mm) on each side where colour runs off the edge; logos and text a quarter inch inside the trim.
  • Office printers can't print to the edge, so for letters you print yourself, keep colour bands off the outer quarter inch too.
