What is an AI skin color changer?

An AI skin color changer edits the skin tone in an image from a short text instruction, such as "warm golden tan" or "deep brown", and keeps everything else as it was. Kenerate AI opens its image editor with a skin tone instruction filled in; you upload the image, change the tone in the prompt and create. Use it on characters, artwork or your own photos, not to change the race or ethnicity of a real person.

Tips

Get a natural skin tone result

Tone changes read best when the lighting stays the same.

  • Use a sharp photo or illustration with the face and skin clearly visible.

  • Name the tone and the feel: “warm golden tan”, “cool olive”, “deep espresso brown”.

  • Keep “same features, pose, clothing and lighting” so only the skin changes.

  • For a character or artwork, add the style: “painted, soft cel shading”.

  • Check hands, arms and edges of the face; run it again if a patch looks off.

FAQ

AI Skin Color Changer questions

How do I change the skin color of a character or photo?

Upload the image to the AI skin color changer and press Create. Kenerate AI opens the image editor with a skin tone instruction already written. Change the tone in the prompt, such as “deep espresso brown” or “soft porcelain”, and keep the line about features, pose, clothing and lighting so only the skin changes.

Is the AI skin color changer free?

Yes, to start. A new Kenerate account gets free starter credits, which work on free-plan models such as Qwen Image 3.0, the default here. Seedream 5.0 Pro and Nano Banana 2 need a one-time credit pack rather than a subscription, and credits you buy never expire. Results download without a watermark.

Can I use it on fantasy characters and original characters?

Yes. It works well on original characters, game and fantasy characters, and illustrations. Describe the tone and the style, such as “blue-grey undertone, painted look” or “ember-glow skin”, and keep the line about features and lighting so the character still reads as the same person.

Does it change anything other than the skin?

It shouldn't. The preset asks the model to keep the face shape, features, expression, pose, clothing, hair, background and lighting the same, and instruction-based editors repaint only what you name. If a run changes the eyes, clothing or background, run it again or add “do not change anything else”.

Should I use it on a real person's photo?

Only with their permission, and never to change a real person's race or ethnicity or to misrepresent who they are. A skin tone edit still alters a real person's likeness. Use your own photo or one the person has agreed to, don't present an edited photo as an unaltered one, and never upload a photo of a minor. Kenerate's content rules apply to every edit.

In depth

AI Skin Color Changer, explained

What works, what to avoid, and how to pick a model.

How the skin color changer works

The skin color changer is an instruction edit. Your image and one sentence go to an image model's edit endpoint; the model finds the skin areas and repaints the tone, keeping the texture, the shadows and the lighting so the new tone still sits in the scene.
