How do you convert a WebP file to PNG?
To convert WebP to PNG, open the WebP in Kenerate's Edit Studio (/app/edit), choose Convert, pick PNG and download. PNG is lossless and keeps transparency, and the converter keeps the full resolution. It costs 0.3 credits per image, so the 25 free credits a new account gets cover 83 conversions. Pick the right format for your WebP
What to choose for the file you have.
Logos, icons, stickers and cut-outs → PNG, so the transparent background stays transparent.
Screenshots, text and sharp graphics → PNG: lossless, so edges stay crisp.
Photos for email, documents or upload forms → JPEG: the smallest file every app accepts.
Images for your own website → keep WebP, or convert PNG to WebP for a smaller file.
Print shop or layout software → TIFF keeps the pixels uncompressed.
Too small to use? Run Upscale before Convert in the same Edit Studio session.
FAQ
WebP to PNG Converter questions
10 questions
How do I convert WebP to PNG?
Open the WebP in Kenerate's Edit Studio at /app/edit, choose Convert, pick PNG and download the result. It takes one click after upload, costs 0.3 credits and keeps the image's full resolution and transparency.
Link to this answerIs the WebP to PNG converter free?
Free to start. A new account gets 25 credits on sign-up and each conversion costs 0.3 credits, so that's 83 conversions before you pay anything. After that, credits come in one-time packs. Downloads carry no watermark.
Link to this answerWhy do images I download save as .webp?
Many websites serve WebP because it's smaller: Google measures lossless WebP at 26% smaller than PNG and lossy WebP at 25–34% smaller than a comparable JPEG. When you save the image, your browser keeps the file the site sent, so you get a .webp.
Link to this answerDoes WebP to PNG keep transparency?
Yes. PNG has full alpha transparency, so a transparent WebP logo, sticker or cut-out stays transparent as a PNG. If you pick JPEG instead, the transparency can't survive, because JPG has no alpha channel.
Link to this answerDoes converting WebP to PNG lose quality?
No. PNG is lossless, so the PNG holds exactly the pixels in the WebP at the same size. It won't restore detail a lossy WebP already threw away, and the PNG file is usually larger than the WebP.
Link to this answerShould I convert WebP to PNG or JPG?
PNG for logos, screenshots, text and anything with a transparent background. JPG for photos, where a smaller file matters more than perfect edges. The same Convert tool does both for 0.3 credits.
Link to this answerCan I convert PNG to WebP?
Yes. Upload the PNG, choose Convert and pick WebP. WebP keeps transparency and is usually smaller, which makes pages load faster — Google puts lossless WebP at 26% smaller than PNG.
Link to this answerCan I convert an animated WebP?
This converter is built for still images, and we don't promise that animation survives. PNG itself can't animate (animated PNG is a separate format, APNG), so for animated WebPs use a dedicated animated converter.
Link to this answerCan I convert many WebP files at once?
Not with this tool — Convert works on one image at a time. For a folder of files, a command-line tool such as ImageMagick or a browser-based bulk converter is faster. On Windows, Paint can also open a WebP and save it as PNG.
Link to this answerAre my files uploaded?
Yes. The conversion runs on Kenerate's servers, not in your browser, and the result is saved to your account. If you'd rather not upload a private image, use a converter that works offline in the browser.

PNG vs WebP vs JPG
All three open in every current browser, but they're built for different jobs. WebP, from Google, does both lossy and lossless compression with transparency and animation in one format. PNG is lossless with full transparency. JPG is lossy, has no transparency, and opens in practically every app ever made.
- Transparency: PNG yes, WebP yes, JPG no.
- Compression: PNG lossless; WebP lossy or lossless; JPG lossy.
- File size: lossless WebP is 26% smaller than PNG; lossy WebP is 25–34% smaller than a comparable JPEG (Google).
- Animation: WebP yes; PNG no (APNG is a separate extension); JPG no.
- Opens everywhere: PNG and JPG in almost every app; WebP in all current browsers but not in some older editors, viewers and upload forms.
Why convert WebP to PNG at all?
WebP is great for websites and awkward everywhere else. Some image editors, slide tools, print services, marketplaces and upload forms still reject .webp files, or flatten the transparent background when they import one.
Converting to PNG gives you a lossless file with the transparency intact that those tools accept. Converting to JPG gives you a smaller photo file instead, with a solid background.
Going the other way: PNG to WebP
If you run a website, the reverse conversion is the useful one. Upload the PNG, choose Convert and pick WebP: the image keeps its transparency and usually gets smaller, which helps pages load faster. Keep the original PNG as your master copy.
How this converter differs from the others
Most WebP to PNG sites are single-purpose: upload, convert, download. Some run in your browser without uploading the file, and some convert many files at once or turn animated WebP into APNG. Ours does neither — it converts one still image at a time on our servers.
What it adds is the editor around it. The WebP opens in Edit Studio, so you can remove a white background, upscale it, crop it or change it with an AI edit before you export the PNG.
