AI Floor Plan Generator — floor-plan images from a sentence, honestly
Describe a home — “two bedrooms, open kitchen, a balcony off the living room” — and get a floor-plan-style image in 2D or 3D. Great for ideas, mood boards and talking to your architect. Not a to-scale plan you can build from: here's where AI stops and real plan tools start.

Quick answer
Can AI generate a floor plan?
An AI floor plan generator can mean two very different tools. Image models — Nano Banana 2.1, GPT Image 2.5 Sunburst and others on Kenerate AI — draw floor-plan-style pictures from a description: clean 2D layouts, coloured marketing plans or 3D isometric cutaways. They're fast and great for ideas, but not to scale: room sizes, labels and wall thickness can be wrong and you can't export CAD. Plan tools such as Maket, Planner 5D, RoomSketcher, SketchUp or Revit work in real dimensions. Use AI images to explore, then draw the real plan in a plan tool or with an architect.

Tips
Get floor-plan images that read clearly
Image models draw what a plan looks like. These habits keep the picture tidy and honest.
Name the view first: “2D top-down floor plan” or “3D isometric cutaway floor plan”.
List the rooms and how they connect: “kitchen open to living room, balcony off the living room, bathroom between the bedrooms”.
Ask for a style: “black walls on white, door swings and window symbols, simple furniture”.
Keep text short — room names only, in quotes if they must be exact — and say “no dimensions” unless you'll check every number.
Pick a ratio close to the footprint: 4:3 or 3:2 for most homes, 1:1 for square plans, 16:9 for wide ones.
Turn a hand sketch into a clean plan: upload it to Seedream 5.0 Pro and say “redraw as a clean 2D plan, same layout”.
Never give an AI plan to a builder, a lender or a buyer as if it were measured.

FAQ
AI Floor Plan Generator questions
8 questions
Can AI generate a floor plan?
It can generate a picture of one. Image models such as Nano Banana 2.1 draw convincing 2D and 3D floor-plan images from a description, but they don't work in real measurements, so sizes and labels can be off and nothing exports to CAD. For a plan you can build from, use a plan tool that works in dimensions — Maket, Planner 5D, RoomSketcher, SketchUp, Revit — or an architect.
Link to this answerIs an AI floor plan to scale?
No. An image model places walls by how plans usually look, not by measurement, so a room labelled 12×14 ft may not be drawn that size and rooms may not add up to the footprint. Treat any number in the image as decoration. If you need dimensions, measure or draw it in a plan tool.
Link to this answerWhat is the best AI floor plan generator?
It depends on what you need. For ideas and visuals, an image model is fastest — on Kenerate, Nano Banana 2.1 is our first pick for clean text, with GPT Image 2.5 Sunburst for dense detail. For dimensioned plans with DXF or PDF export, dedicated plan tools such as Maket, Planner 5D or RoomSketcher are the right category.
Link to this answerCan AI make a 3D floor plan?
Yes, as an image: ask for “3D isometric cutaway floor plan, walls cut at waist height, furniture in each room, soft daylight”. You can also upload a 2D plan image to Nano Banana 2.1 and ask for “the same layout as a 3D isometric floor plan”. It's a rendering, not a 3D model you can walk through or measure.
Link to this answerCan I turn a hand-drawn sketch into a clean floor plan?
Yes. Photograph the sketch, upload it to Seedream 5.0 Pro and ask: “Redraw this as a clean 2D architectural floor plan, same rooms and layout, black walls on white, door and window symbols.” Check that no room, door or window moved — image models sometimes tidy a layout into something different.
Link to this answerIs the AI floor plan generator free?
Free to start. A new Kenerate account gets 25 starter credits, and Qwen Image 3.0 is a free-plan model for drafts. Nano Banana 2.1 and the other models use credits from one-time packs, no subscription. Downloads have no watermark.
Link to this answerCan I use an AI floor plan for a permit or a listing?
Not on its own. A permit needs dimensioned drawings that meet your local code — in the US the IRC, for example, sets minimum habitable room sizes of 70 sq ft and 7 ft in any direction — usually prepared or checked by a designer or architect. A listing plan should show the home as it really is, so use a measured plan there.
Link to this answerWhy are the room labels misspelled or the numbers wrong?
Image models draw text as shapes. Keep labels short, put exact words in quotes, and leave dimensions out. Fix a wrong label with Edit Text in Image in Edit Studio, or add text in a layout tool afterwards.

What works, what to avoid, and how to pick a model.

Image of a floor plan vs a real floor plan
The same words cover two very different things:
- Image model (Kenerate, ChatGPT, Midjourney…): a picture of a plan · seconds · any style · not to scale · no layers, no CAD export · ideas and visuals.
- Plan app (Maket, Planner 5D, RoomSketcher…): a plan drawn in dimensions · minutes · fewer styles · to scale · PDF or image, some offer DXF · layouts you can measure.
- CAD / BIM (AutoCAD, SketchUp, Revit…): construction-grade drawings · hours to weeks · technical · to scale · DWG, IFC · permits and building.
2D vs 3D floor plan styles
Name one in the prompt; each line gives the words that work.
- 2D line plan — black walls on white, door swings, window symbols · “clean 2D architectural floor plan, black walls on white”.
- 2D coloured plan — tinted rooms, wood and tile textures, furniture from above · “2D colour floor plan, wood floors, grey tiles, furniture top view”.
- Blueprint — white lines on deep blue · “blueprint-style floor plan, white lines on blue, technical drawing look”.
- Hand-drawn sketch — pencil or ink on paper · “architect's hand-drawn floor plan sketch, ink on tracing paper”.
- 3D isometric cutaway — walls cut at waist height, rooms furnished · “3D isometric cutaway floor plan, soft daylight, furniture in every room”.
- 3D top-down render — photoreal from straight above · “photorealistic 3D top-down floor plan render, warm lighting, realistic materials”.
Floor plan prompts to start from
Add your style line from above to any of these:
- Studio apartment: one open room with a kitchen wall, a sleeping nook behind a half wall, a bathroom and a small balcony.
- Two-bedroom flat: entrance hall, open kitchen and living room, a balcony off the living room, bathroom between the bedrooms.
- Three-bedroom family house, ground floor: kitchen-diner opening to the garden, living room at the front, utility room, guest WC.
- Small cabin: one living-kitchen space with a wood stove, a sleeping loft ladder, a shower room and a covered porch.
- Accessible bungalow: wide corridors, open-plan living, a roll-in shower, no steps at the entrance.
- Home office extension: a garden room with a desk wall, a sofa corner and a small storage closet.
When to switch to a real plan tool
As soon as numbers matter — buying furniture, quoting a builder, applying for a permit, or marketing a home that exists. US homes built under the International Residential Code, for example, need habitable rooms of at least 70 sq ft and at least 7 ft in any horizontal direction (IRC 2021 R304); an image model has no idea whether its drawing meets that.
A good workflow: explore five or ten layouts as AI images, pick the one that feels right, then redraw it to scale in a plan app or hand it to your designer as a sketch of what you want.
