How do you make a tarot card with AI?

An AI tarot card generator turns a description of a card — its figure, symbols, colours and style — into finished card art, with the title and numeral lettered into the frame if you put them in quotes. On Kenerate AI, GPT Image 2.5 Sunburst does the lettering at 7.2 credits a card at 1K (12 at 2K); Nano Banana 2.1 keeps a whole deck in one style from your reference cards. Standard tarot cards are 2.75×4.75 in (70×120 mm), so pick the 9:16 ratio and trim a little; a print file with bleed is about 900×1500 px. A full 78-card deck at 2K costs about 936 credits.

Steps
4 steps
  1. Step 1

    Open the Image Studio

Go to /app/image and pick GPT Image 2.5 Sunburst. Sign in free for 25 starter credits.

  2. Step 2

    Choose 9:16 and the size

  3. Step 3

    Describe the card

Card name and arcana, the figure and its symbols, colours, art style, border — and the title and numeral in quotes with their position. Add your earlier cards as references to keep the deck's style.

    Check, fix, download

Zoom in on the lettering, fix any word with Edit Text in Image, upscale for print, then download without a watermark.

Tips

Get tarot cards you can actually print

Titles, deck consistency and print size are where AI tarot decks go wrong. This avoids all three.

  • Put the title and numeral in quotes and say where they go: “XVII” small at the top, “THE STAR” in a gold banner at the bottom.

  • Write one style line and paste it into every card — palette, art style, border, font — so the deck looks like one deck.

  • Make the card back and two or three finished cards first, then add them as references for the rest of the deck.

  • Pick 9:16 and keep titles and numerals about 1/4 in from every edge — that part is trimmed or sits under the bleed.

  • Describe the symbols in your own words instead of naming a published deck; you get original art and stay clear of trademarks.

  • Zoom in on every title before printing; fix a wrong letter with Edit Text in Image rather than regenerating the card.

FAQ

AI Tarot Card Generator questions

How do I make a tarot card with AI?

Open Kenerate's Image Studio, pick GPT Image 2.5 Sunburst and the 9:16 ratio, and describe the card: its name and arcana, the figure and symbols, colours, art style and border, plus the title and numeral in quotes — “XVII” at the top, “THE STAR” at the bottom. Generate, zoom in on the lettering, then download. A card costs 7.2 credits at 1K or 12 at 2K.

Is the AI tarot card generator free?

Free to start. A new Kenerate account gets 25 credits on sign-up — enough for three GPT Image 2.5 Sunburst cards at 1K. Qwen Image 3.0 is a free-plan model for drafts. After that, credits come in one-time packs with no subscription. Downloads have no watermark.

Can AI make a full 78-card tarot deck?

Yes, one card at a time. A deck is 22 Major Arcana and 56 Minor Arcana (four suits of 14). At 2K on GPT Image 2.5 Sunburst that's 78 × 12 = 936 credits, plus a card back; at 1K it's about 562. Most people start with the 22 Major Arcana, then add the suits.

How do I keep the same style across the whole deck?

Write one style line — palette, art style, border, font — and paste it into every prompt. Then make the card back and a few finished cards and add them as reference images for the rest. Nano Banana 2.1 takes up to 14 references and is built for consistency; GPT Image 2.5 Sunburst takes up to 16. Small details like border ornaments can still vary, so plan to review the deck side by side.

What size is a tarot card for printing?

Standard tarot cards are 2.75×4.75 in (70×120 mm). Print services such as MakePlayingCards ask for at least 300 dpi with 1/8 in bleed on each side, which makes a 3×5 in file — about 900×1500 pixels. Generate at 9:16, trim about 6% off the height, and keep text 1/4 in from the edges.

Can I get the card names and Roman numerals right?

Put them in quotes and say where they go. GPT Image 2.5 Sunburst is our first pick for lettering; Recraft V4.1 and Ideogram v4 are type-focused alternatives. Any model can still swap a letter — getimg.ai's tarot guide warns the same — so check each title and fix a wrong one with Edit Text in Image, or add the titles in a layout tool.

Can I sell a tarot deck I made with Kenerate?

Kenerate's terms say the copyright and ownership of what you generate belongs to you, with no royalty to Kenerate, so you can sell or publish your deck. Make your own designs rather than copying a published deck: the 1909 Pamela Colman Smith art is public domain in the UK and EU, but the “Rider-Waite” name and later recoloured editions are claimed by U.S. Games Systems.

Can I put my own face or my pet on a card?

Yes. Add the photo as a reference and describe the card around it, adding “keep the face exactly the same” — for example yourself as The Magician or your cat as the Queen of Wands. A GPT Image 2.5 Sunburst card with one reference photo costs 11.7 credits at 1K.

Does it do tarot readings?

No. This page is about designing tarot card art — single cards, card backs and full decks. It doesn't draw cards or interpret spreads.

Tarot or oracle cards — can it make both?

Both. Tarot follows the fixed 78-card structure; oracle decks have any number of cards with your own names and themes. Write the card name in quotes either way. Oracle cards are often a bit wider, so 2:3 can fit better than 9:16 — check your printer's size first.

AI Tarot Card Generator, explained

What works, what to avoid, and how to pick a model.

Tarot card sizes, ratios and pixels

Pick the size before you generate, so nothing important gets trimmed:

  • Standard tarot: 2.75×4.75 in (70×120 mm). Generate at 9:16 and trim about 6% off the height.
  • Print file with 1/8 in bleed: 3×5 in — about 900×1500 px at 300 dpi.
  • Keep titles, numerals and suit symbols at least 1/4 in (about 75 px) inside the trim line.
  • Larger 'grand' or smaller 'mini' decks: check your printer's template, then pick 9:16 or 2:3, whichever is closer.
  • A 1K card can be short of print size at 9:16 — render at 2K, or run the Image Upscaler (3 credits) to 4096+ px.
